Members share an interest in Whatcom County history. Membership fee
of $10 a year covers newsletter costs and mailings. Other membership options
are available which include discounts on books and workshops and/or premiums.
The Society has produced publications of local historical interest including
The Sue Boynton Story, The Harris Journal, The Heritage Cookbook
and The Saxon Story. Additional Society projects include annual programs
on topics of historical interest and commemoration of local historical events.
Whatcom Genealogical Society

A non-profit organization dedicated to promoting genealogical and historical
research and to preserving local historical records. Society holds meetings
the second Monday of each month in the Bellingham Public Library lecture room
at 7:00 pm, Sept. through June. Meetings are open to the public. Individual
membership in the Society is $12 a year and includes a quarterly subscription
to The Bulletin. Members collect information relating to people of
northwestern Washington State including cemetery records, marriage records,
obituaries and census data. The Society's collection is housed in the Bellingham
Public Library. A Society member is available at the library on Wednesday
afternoon from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to assist researchers.
Whatcom
Old Settler's Association

A group dedicated to preserving the pioneer heritage of Whatcom County.
The traditional "Old Settler's Picnic" is held in Ferndale the last weekend
of July, every year, from Thursday until Sunday. Organized in 1895, membership
is open to anyone in Whatcom County. Association meetings are held the 2nd
Monday of each month except for December and August, at The Tillicum House
in Pioneer Park.

Members promote restoration work and an interest in history in the
Eldridge Avenue Historic District in Bellingham, Washington. They also support
restoration and community projects in the broader Columbia neighborhood. Everyone
is welcome to join; members don't have to live in the Columbia neighborhood.

The Washington State Historical Society (WSHS) operates two museums
of general interest. The Washington State Capital Museum, in Olympia, WA,
is dedicated to presenting the history of Olympia, Washington's capital city.
The Washington State History Museum, in Tacoma, WA, sponsors ongoing exhibits
and events exploring Washington history. Hours, admission prices, exhibit
and address information are available at the WSHS Web site.
Washington State Genealogical Society

Promotes the preservation of, and access to, public and private genealogical
and historical information. Members and local, county and regional genealogical
organizations share information about genealogical activites and resources
via newsletter. Regional Representatives conduct workshops and seminars in
the eight regions they represent. The Society sponsors an annual genealogical
conference which includes nationally known speakers and mini-sessions. Projects
have included "Centennial Pioneer Certificates" which were issued to applicants
who could prove their ancestors were in Washington Territory prior to November
11, 1889.
