The Normal School in Bellingham, WA. In 1895 funding was allocated for construction of the New Whatcom State Normal School. The location was on a drained marsh near the top of Sehome Hill. The Italian-style structure was designed by Seattle architectural firm Skillings and Corner. William Davey, a Fairhaven contractor, built the main structure in 1896 for the sum of $34,126. The years 1902, 1909 and 1914 each saw the addition of an annex to the main building. Since then the campus has grown up around the original school. "Old Main" lives on as part of Western Washington University by providing essential services in its various offices and classrooms.
