Whatcom Museum of History and Art

• The museum was built in 1892 and served as Bellingham's first City Hall after incorporation in 1903. Other buildings in the museum's complex house an education center, archives research area, exhibits gallery and a children's museum. Collections include regional maps, Edson Ephermera collection of historic regional flyers and ads, and design drawings by engineer G. Erwin Hube. The H.C. Hanson Naval Architecture Collection includes thousands of original line drawings, blueprints, photographs, models and related items.

• Artifact collections used in exhibits include items used or found in Whatcom County include logging tools, native American baskets and period clothing.

• Photographic collections include the Darius Kinsey Collection, James W. "Wilbur" Sandison Collection, Leslie R. Corbett Collection, photo albums of early Bellingham businesses and farms, a vintage photograph collection, John W. Thompson collection, and the Chet Hanson Film Collection.


Bellingham Railway Museum

• Bellingham Railway Museum tells the story of railroads in Whatcom and Skagit counties. Numerous photographs and documents are displayed from the BB&BC, BB&N, and Milwaukee Road in Whatcom County as well as the Interurban and electric railways. Logging railroads are also featured in displays which show timber camps and locomotives.



Bellingham International Maritime Museum

• A non-profit organization formed to honor, record, and preserve the maritime history of Bellingham, Whatcom County and Puget Sound. There is special emphasis on the nautical heritage shared by Washington State, British Columbia, and Alaska as well as recognition for the fraternal community of boat and ship builders in this region.


Deming Logging Show Museum

• Museum is open to the public during the annual June Deming Logging Show. Exhibits include historic logging equipment and photographs.


Fairhaven Pharmacy Museum

• Private museum open by appointment only. Collections of early medical equipment, suplies and pharmaceuticals, photogrpahs and memorabilia of Fairhaven District and residents from early days to present day, local maritime history and more.


Gerdrum Museum

• Located near Silver Lake, the museum is operated in conjunction with the Black Mountain Forestry Center. This well-preserved museum was the original Gerdrum home, built around 1894. It was constructed out of a single cedar tree and now houses artifacts and displays along with a small gift shop. Logging tools and equipment are also displayed on the grounds.

 

Heritage Flight Museum

• Founded by the William Anders Family in 1996, the Heritage Flight Museum was established for public education. The main focus of the museum is on U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force vintage fighters, trainers and liaison aircraft. The museum is in the process of looking for a permanent facility.


Lynden Pioneer Museum

• Collections of donated artifacts and photographs reflect the rural lifestyle of Lynden. These are displayed in settings depicting a pioneer home and a miniature walk-through historic town. Other collections include the Fred Polinder buggy collection, an early Chevrolet car collection, Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery Association collection, military collection, Berthusen collection, photographs of Lynden and surrounding areas and early Lynden newspapers.

 

Pioneer Park in Ferndale

• One of the largest collections of cedar-slab log buildings in the world. Whatcom County pioneers originally built the 11 log buildings which were moved, over the course of several decades, to their current location in Ferndale. Pioneer Park allows visitors a rare opportunity to view these preserved log cabins and their contents, consisting of genuine artifacts. Guided, or self-guided tours are available during open hours.


The American Radio Museum
1312 Bay Street, Bellingham, WA 98225

• Museum housing vintage radios and other examples of broadcast technology from the early 20th century. Open certain days and hours each week; see the museum's site for current information . The collection includes more than 1,200 radios, televisions, recording devices, and players. Also included in the collection are many schematics and reference books as well as early high-voltage devices including Tesla coils and Geissler tubes.

 

The Pickett House

• Built by Captain George E. Pickett in 1856, this small pioneer house was constructed of rough planks from Roeder and Peabody's Whatcom Creek mill. The Daughters of the Pioneers hold the building in trust which is on the National Register of Historic Sites. They maintain and show the home which has old photographs and displays, Victorian era furniture, and a number of scrapbooks touching on different local history topics. The house looks very similar to its original appearance with much of the old structure left. Donations are appreciated as The Pickett House has no other source of funding.
