Front Street, Lynden, WA, 1908. Among the earlliest settlers were Phoebe and Holden Judson, who arrived in 1871 and platted the town in 1884. Mrs. Judson named the town Lynden after her favorite poem, changing the spelling to make the name more pleasing. Other early settlers were Colonel Wm. Patterson, and Hans Berthusen who bequeathed his homestead to the city of Lynden. It's now known as "Berthusen Park."
