Whatcom county loggers pose by a large log. Early settlers In the mid 1800s and early 1900s found the forests of Whatcom county thick with trees of immense proportions. Men with strong arms and long, cross-cut saws worked in unison to bring these forest giants down. The felled logs were then hauled away by horse and wagon, or by rail, for processing at local mills.
