Mount Baker Lodge, ca.1928. The Mount Baker Lodge opened in 1927, shortly after the new Mount Baker HIghway was extended to Heather Meadows. Of the lodge's 100 rooms, 60 had private baths and telephones. All rooms had electric heat provided by a small hydroelectric plant on nearby Bagley Creek. Additional accommodations were available in small cabins. Disaster struck in 1931 when the lodge caught fire and burned to the ground. It was never rebuilt.
