Eldridge Avenue, Bellingham, WA. Horse and buggy, trolleys, and pedestrians traveled Eldridge Avenue, sometimes all at once. Bellingham's Eldridge Historic District was platted in 1881 and 1884. Edward Eldridge and Henry Roeder were the principal land owners as their donation claims included approximately 130 acres of this district. Streets running east to west were named after presidents, while streets running north to south were mostly named after Roeder family members. Henry Roeder donated two square blocks for a park that was named after his wife, Elizabeth. The area was home to many of Bellingham's earliest, and most prominent, citizens. There is still a large concentration of historic homes here encompassing many different architectural styles.
