Bellingham National Bank Building, Bellingham, WA. Architect F. Stanley Piper designed the Bellingham National Bank Building in the "Chicago" style, and construction began in 1912. The bank is built from reinforced concrete and faced with smooth masonry, brick, or elaborate decorations, depending on the floor. The most detailed ornamentation was reserved for the first floor, including an arched entrance to the lobby, two doric columns, and bronze windows. When the building opened in December 1913, the Bellingham National Bank occupied the first floor and the partial basement while other businesses were located on the upper floors. Today, Key Bank occupies the first floor, and the upstairs offices house other businesses just as they did years ago.
