Collects and preserves historically valuable records from governmental
units and agencies in seven northwest counties including Whatcom, Skagit,
Snohomish, Island, San Juan, Jefferson and Clallam. Records date from 1854
to the present. Information is also available on holdings of the central state
archives in Olympia.
Collections include property records, marriage licenses, land patents,
mining claims, water rights, military discharges, articles of incorporation,
vital statistics, voter registrations, election records, civil township records,
probate and district court records, naturalization papers, territorial records,
tax rolls and deeds, pre-consolidation town records of Bellingham, documents
relating to school districts, property assessment, plat descriptions, photographs
and maps, State Supreme Court case files from 1889-1927, original weather
records for the region and the state.
The Center has a variety of collected materials including private papers,
audio and video tapes, photographs, maps, architectural drawings, diaries,
letters, account books, and newspapers. These records document economic, social,
cultural and political trends significant to the study of the Pacific Northwest.
Most of the collection covers the northern Puget Sound area including Whatcom,
Skagit and Snohomish counties.

development of WWU. Examples of archival materials available to researchers
include: records of University committees, annual and other reports, planning
documents, departmental history files, records of faculty, staff and student
organizations, photographs/negatives of personnel and facilities.

A tribal department which oversees the Records Management of Lummi
records. The Center protects unique tribal records and artifacts of cultural
and historical significance of the source community. The records system includes
collection, preservation and disposition. Requests for research must have
prior approval through the Lummi Indian Business Council.
Material covering all aspects of history and life in the Pacific Northwest,
Alaska and Western Canada. Local histories, city directories and materials
on Native Americans are among the collection strengths. Documentary photographs
depicting Western Washington, Alaska and the Yukon.
Records cover Federal government operations at the regional, state
and local levels in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Includes census
and immigration records, Indian agency records, Dawes Allotment Act, Farm
Credit Administration, Maritime Commission, U.S. District Courts, and more.
