The International Peace Arch on the boundary between the United States and Canada at Blaine. The Peace Arch was built to commemorate the end of the war of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. Fundraising was provided by Samuel HIll who also dedicated the finished monument on September 6, 1921. The Arch, which required 3500 sacks of concrete and 50 tons of reinforced steel to build, is 67 feet high. The seven acre park around the Arch was was expanded to 41 acres in 1931. Over half a million people visit the park and its gardens each year.
